More than 60 years serving Arizona

The Economic and Business Research Center has been providing the citizens of Arizona with high quality economic forecasts and applied economic research since 1949.

Mission

The Economic and Business Research Center's mission is to provide the Arizona community of business and public-sector decision makers with applied research and information on economic, demographic and business trends in Arizona.

What We Do

Current Economic and Business Research Center (EBR) activities revolve around:

  • Providing the public with economic and socio-demographic data, economic forecasts and analysis via this website, our quarterly online magazine Arizona's Economy, and our subscription data service the EBR Database Online.

  • Conducting research in the areas of:
    • regional economic and revenue forecasting
    • border and regional development
    • environmental/sustainable economics
    • renewable energy
    • economic impact
    • public finance and taxation
    • industry studies
    • Browse recent research studies.

  • Responding to data requests and educating the public about data resources and best practices in the use of public data.

  • EBR's Annual Economic Outlook Luncheon, held each December, provides the Arizona community with a summary analysis of the latest economic forecast for Arizona and the nation. Six months later each June, EBR revists the forecast in a Mid-Year Economic Outlook Breakfast.

  • In addition to providing economic forecasts to the public in general, EBR also provides in-depth economic forecast analysis and databases on a susbscription basis to government and business via its economic forecasting unit, The Forecasting Project.

EBR responds to requests for information from business leaders, state and local government agencies, chambers of commerce, public and private researchers, industrial organizations, news media, students, and private citizens. In turn, EBR seeks research contracts with public and private entities.

Please feel free to contact our staff with your data inquiries or to visit our offices during business hours Monday through Friday. If you wish to browse the EBR library collection or conduct a data search, it is a good idea to e-mail or call ahead.

Celebrating more than 60 Years as the Premier Source for Information on Arizona's Economy

2009 marked the 60th anniversary of the Economic and Business Research Center. EBR continues its proud service to the citizens of Arizona by providing information and research on the economy that is vital to decision makers in both the public and private sectors. EBR's publications and website have been recognized for excellence on multiple occasions.

The center was created in 1949 as the Bureau of Business Research with the purpose of practical investigation and study of business and economic problems. Its objectives are the collection, analysis, arrangement, and dissemination of economic facts to:

  • Assist business and government units to deal intelligently with present problems and plan for the future.
  • Promote informed development and use of our state's resources, by providing decision makers and the public with the most up-to-date and accurate socio-economic and demographic data analysis.
  • Train and assist faculty and students in the field of business and economic research.

The Bureau underwent four name changes: one in 1957, when it became the Bureau of Business and Public Research, and another in 1965, when it became the Division of Economic and Business Research. In a sweeping reorganization and downsizing in 1991, the organization became the Economic and Business Research Program, and in 2003 its current moniker was adopted.
